La Directa published the news this Monday: despite two strong technical reports from the Department of Territory and Ecological Transition itself demanding the immediate halt of the works, Ametller Origen continues full steam ahead with the devastation of the Agroparc of Gelida.
Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of earth are being moved and hectares of agricultural and forest land are being devastated right in the heart of the main feeding area of the Bonelli's eagle, a species critically endangered in Catalonia. These works are being carried out without any certified compensatory measures and in clear violation of the judicial precautionary measures issued last July.
The reports from the Fauna and Flora Service of the Generalitat, signed by its head and deputy director on 3 and 8 October, leave no room for doubt: the works are "incompatible" with the conservation of the species, violate the precautionary principle, and cause an irreversible loss of habitat and constant disturbance. They warn that no certified compensatory plan has been presented, which should have been carried out before any earth movement, as required by the reports to authorise the Agroparc.
Public authorities (Generalitat, Gelida Town Council, ...) continue to do nothing and allow Ametller Origen to keep destroying the habitat. This institutional inaction is incomprehensible and unacceptable. From StopAgroparc, we demand that the Director General of the Environment of the Generalitat, Marc Vilahur, and the Department of Territory act now and definitively halt the works until all legal and technical requirements are met.
