Subject: They want to silence us, but our voice in defence of the land is stronger than ever
Dear all,
Since our last communication on 29 December, the situation has taken a turn that forces us to be firmer than ever in the defence of the territory.
They will not silence us. Recently, the administrator of Ametller Origen, Josep Ametller, has initiated a strategy of judicial intimidation against several members of the entities that form the StopAgroparc platform. Conciliation demands have been filed prior to a criminal complaint for alleged insults and slander, specifically directed at colleagues from Naturalistes de Gelida and from Col·lectiu Ecologista Bosc Verd.
We consider that this attack is a direct threat to freedom of expression and a desperate attempt to deactivate the complaint we have been making since 2016 against the aggression that Agroparc represents. In light of this, our response is clear: StopAgroparc will not back down. Our commitment to nature, ecological connectors, and the survival of the Bonelli's eagle is non-negotiable, and we will not be intimidated by procedures that only seek to distract attention from the environmental emergency we are experiencing.
The excuse of maps in the face of real destruction. At the last municipal plenary on 27 January, we witnessed an outrageous chapter. Mayor Lluís Valls rejected a motion to investigate the destruction of the Talaia path. Their argument is based on an artificial division of the land: they claim that in the section of the path that crosses land that the project has reclassified as “urban” the company has every right to act, and that on the "non-developable" land only "maintenance" tasks are being carried out under the cover of some controversial clarifications from the Director General of the Environment: the perfect excuse to disarm the protection of the eagles of Gelida.
As we have already denounced, this reasoning is a profound error: the eagle does not read urban planning maps. The works are being carried out in the very heart of the critical hunting area of the protected species (Kernel 80%), and a deep excavation has the same destructive impact regardless of the land classification. In the plenary, thanks to the pressure from the opposition, it was finally approved that the technical services verify the facts. We will be very attentive to see what the municipal technicians say in their report.
Your support is our best defence This entire legal battle —which includes the response to Ametller's lawsuits, the appeal against the urban planning agreement and the complaints to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the Environment— has a significant economic cost. Our objective is to reach €19,822 to ensure that justice arrives in time to save the territory. Currently, we have already surpassed €13,000 thanks to more than 140 people, but we still have more to go.
We encourage you to make your contribution to the crowdfunding at this link:
👉 Let’s defend the Bonelli's Eagle of Gelida
In addition to direct donations, we have several initiatives underway to raise funds and raise awareness among the population:
Join the Ornithological Outing from the 7th of March or get one of the Bat boxes. We will also soon announce workshops on popular culture, such as the homemade Ratafia or the Angel Hair. Stay tuned for the upcoming dates!
Local art for the territory: You can also contribute by purchasing numbered prints from artists from Gelida to save the eagle, or the unique works of art by Mercè M. Tarrés, by Nil Nebot and by LaFran.
Remember that every euro goes directly to the Naturalists Association of Gelida to finance this legal defence. Your contributions have significant tax benefits: up to 80% of deduction in the IRPF for the first €250, and at least 40% for the rest. During the donation process, you will find a calculator to see exactly how much you will deduct.
We will not allow machines and judicial pressure to win the battle against biodiversity and the dignity of Penedès.
Thank you very much for your commitment and your firmness.
Sincerely,
StopAgroparc Platform
